Il villaggio è nato attorno alla chiusa costruita nel 1448 nel Grecht, chiamata Woerdense Verlaat. La costruzione si sviluppò in due province: Olanda e Utrecht. La parte olandese, situata a ovest del Grecht e a sud del Kollenwetering, rientrava sotto la giurisdizione di Nieuwkoop.
La parte ucraina a nord del Kollenwetering e attorno al pascolo faceva parte della giurisdizione di Wilnis, mentre la parte a sud di essa apparteneva alla giurisdizione di Kamerik. Dopo il 1813, le giurisdizioni furono trasformate in comuni e Woerdense Verlaat rimase suddivisa in tre comuni.
Solo il 1° gennaio 1989, dopo una riorganizzazione comunale, Woerdense Verlaat fu unita al comune di Nieuwkoop, insieme a un'area di Kamerik di dimensioni irragionevoli.
