Si trova a nord di Pieterzijl, a nord-est di Warfstermolen, a sud-est di Lauwersmeer e a sud-ovest di Lauwerzijl. Il centro del villaggio si trova a ovest del Binnensluis della Munnikezijlsterried vicino al confine con la provincia di Groningen. Tra il confine provinciale e il centro del villaggio si trova l'isola e il borgo De Schans con un porto per i passeggeri 't Eiland. Inoltre, i borghi De Kolk e Krabburen rientrano nel villaggio. Nel 2021 il villaggio contava 500 abitanti. A sud del villaggio si trova un vecchio ponte ad arco del 1802, chiamato Piepke.
