Il NEMO Science Museum (inaugurato nel 1997) invita i visitatori a partecipare a esperimenti tecnici. È molto divertente acquisire maggiore consapevolezza della tecnologia e della natura. L'architetto Renzo Piano ha progettato per NEMO un edificio unico. Ha ignorato le convenzioni per un edificio: muri verticali e pavimenti orizzontali, finestre e porte diritte. L'edificio si trova sul lato sud del tunnel IJ. Piano ha realizzato un progetto che rifletteva la linea discendente del tunnel nella linea ascendente del dritto e dello scafo rotondo. La forma distintiva è ulteriormente sottolineata dal materiale particolare con cui è rivestito: rame ossidato. Sulla parte posteriore dell'edificio c'è una terrazza pubblica.
