Nel'area naturale De Brand scorre anche un altro corso d'acqua chiamato "Zandlei". Questo è stato scavato negli anni '60 del secolo scorso per portare via le acque parzialmente trattate dal depuratore di Tilburg.
Questo ha comportato due svantaggi: ha sottratto l'importante acqua di falda a quest'area e durante le inondazioni, le acque reflue indesiderate venivano portate in questa area naturale.
Ora quell'acqua viene deviata attraverso la Zandkantse Lei, come avveniva fino agli anni '60 del XX secolo.
Il fatto che ora possano verificarsi anche inondazioni è accettato, poiché colpisce solo un bosco di salici meno vulnerabile.
La Zandlei sarà chiusa in fasi. Si prevede che nei prossimi anni l'intera area di Brand si inumidirà notevolmente.
