Questa torre è il faro in ghisa più antico ancora esistente nei Paesi Bassi, dopo che il faro Noord-Schouwen Laag a Renesse è stato demolito nel 1915 e il faro in ghisa presso il Flaauwe Werk vicino a Ouddorp è scomparso nel 1911. La torre non ha sempre avuto bande bianche e nere, ma inizialmente era gialla e poi è stata dotata di bande rosso e bianche. L'ottica della torre è stata realizzata da Barbier, Bénard & Turenne. Il cubetto di luce contiene una cupola di rame.
Il faro si trovava originariamente sopra il dikes marittimo. Quando il dike è stato portato a quota delta negli anni settanta del ventesimo secolo, è stato collocato sul lato mare del dike.
Il 29 maggio 2015, il faro è stato trasferito in una piccola cerimonia dal governo belga alla Fondazione Faro Breskens. Da allora la torre è aperta al pubblico. Inoltre, la luce è di nuovo operativa e figura anche sulle mappe nautiche.
