Il campanile di Aardenburg si riferisce a ben tre periodi chiave nella storia di questa città più antica della Zeeland: l'epoca romana, il Medioevo e la Guerra dei Trent'Anni (1568-1648). Se ci concentriamo sulla piccola torre, lì si trova il 'campanile di porridge'. Nel Medioevo, le porte della città venivano chiuse la sera alle 21. Alle 20 suonava la campana per annunciarlo. Allora gli aardenburghesi consumavano il loro quinto e ultimo pasto della giornata: porridge di latticello. In quei tempi si mangiava molta carne di maiale, quindi grasso, il latticello acido favoriva la digestione. Ancora oggi, ogni sera alle 20 suona il campanile di porridge per cinque minuti. Ma se gli abitanti mangiano ancora porridge…?
