Ci sono quattro tubi di cemento nel canale di drenaggio delle maree. Tre tubi lasciano entrare e uscire l'acqua di mare dalla riserva naturale dietro la diga due volte al giorno. Un quarto tubo è collegato all'acqua del polder tramite la stazione di pompaggio. Questo blocca l'acqua in eccesso dai fossi alla Schelda occidentale.
Le dighe lungo la costa West-Zeeuws-Vlaamse sono state rafforzate dall'inizio di questo secolo. La costa è ora resistente alle conseguenze dell'innalzamento del livello del mare e soddisfa i più recenti criteri di sicurezza contro le inondazioni.
