Una curiosità è che il Castello di Wawel è considerato dai hindu come uno dei sette chakra del mondo, creato da una delle sette pietre lanciate da Lord Shiva.
Le persone abitavano sulla collina di Wawel già cinquantamila anni fa, nell'epoca paleolitica. Durante l'inizio del XVI secolo, il re Sigismondo I (Krol Zygmunt I in polacco) e sua moglie, portarono i migliori artisti nativi e stranieri, tra cui architetti e scultori italiani e decoratori tedeschi per creare il splendido palazzo rinascimentale.
