Anche se la maggior parte delle querce da sughero si trovano nell'Alentejo, l'Algarve ha anche diversi luoghi in cui è possibile trovare le querce necessarie. Qui si cammina su un sentiero boscaiolo ai piedi di una collina su una strada con querce da sughero di età diverse su entrambi i lati. Le querce vengono staccate una volta ogni 9 anni, il numero sul tronco indica quando è stato effettuato l'ultima volta. Il peeling avviene tradizionalmente a giugno e luglio. Purtroppo è anche visibile che molti alberi stanno morendo o sono già morti, colpiti da una malattia che sta colpendo tutti i sugheri e lecci della penisola iberica.
