L'Alta Carniola è una delle 12 regioni statistiche in cui è suddivisa la Slovenia: la regione è per la sua maggior parte zona alpina e al suo interno si trova il parco nazionale del Tricorno con il monte Tricorno e il lago di Bohinj; di essa fanno parte 18 comuni: Kranj, il più grande centro urbano e commerciale, ha lo status di comune cittadino e ne è capoluogo; il turismo è l'attività più diffusa, contando circa 2 224 930 di turisti.
