Il nome Five Points deriva dai cinque angoli di questo incrocio. Il quartiere è presente nel libro The Gangs of New York di Herbert Asbury, pubblicato nel 1928.
Negli anni '70, il libro ha ispirato il regista Martin Scorsese a realizzare un film ambientato nei The Points, che ha realizzato con Gangs of New York del 2002.
