Het Burreken een beschermd natuurgebied van 220 hectaren, waarvan momenteel 33 ha door Natuurpunt als reservaat worden beheerd. Talloze bronbeekjes ontspringen er uit de al even talrijke bronnetjes en hebben in zich in het verleden diep in het landschap ingesneden. De begroeiing in dit zwaar golvende bosgebied is de typische bronbosvegetatie: zwarte els, gewone es en hazelaar. Vooral in het voorjaar is het Burreken spectaculair mooi om te bezoeken. Dan zorgen onder meer het wit van de bosanemoon en het blauw van de wilde hyacinth voor een kleurrijk tapijt. Het gebied is vrij toegankelijk op bestaande wegen en gemarkeerde paden.
