Het Stubaitalstation werd in 1903 opgericht en was tot 1983 het eindstation van de Stubaitalbahn in Innsbruck. Sinds 1983 worden de uit Fulpmes komende treinen langs het station, door het stadsgebied van Innsbruck verdergeleid. In de omgangstaal wordt er een onderscheid gemaakt tussen het "Oude Stubaitalstation", dat het spoorwegterrein en gebouw van 1904 aanduidt, en het "Nieuwe Stubaitalstation" als de huidige bedrijfsruimte van de Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe.
