Meix-devant-Virton is een klein dorp aan het riviertje de Chevratte, in het Land van Gaum, een deel van Belgisch-Lotharingen en dat is dan het zuidelijkste deel van de provincie Luxemburg. De naam zou afgeleid zijn van het Germaanse meer = moeras. Op het grondgebied van het dorp bevinden zich inderdaad enkele moerassen. In het verleden kreeg Meix het vaak erg te verduren, onder andere op 11 juni 1636, toen het platgebrand werd door Kroatische soldaten in dienst van het Heilig Roomse Rijk. Natuurliefhebbers zullen graag horen dat Meix-devant-Virton (uitspraak op z'n Frans: Miks) omringd is door 900 ha bos.
