In zijn prachtige boek Grand Central Belge beschrijft Pascal Verbeken uitstekend het ontstaan van Louvain-la-Neuve. Dit station speelde daarin een centrale rol: "Toen Louvain-la-Neuve bedacht werd, was het station het eerste gebouw dat op het blanke, urbanistische plan werd getekend. Een visonair mobiliteitsbeleid moest de bloedsomloop van de stad worden. Auto's werden verbannen naar een parking onder het standscentrum. De straten werden teruggegeven aan voetgangers en fietsers. Na de in wegenbeton gegoten Belgische jaren 1950 en '60 was dit een revolutie. Boven op het station werd het rectoraat gebouwd, de commandokamer van de universiteitsstad."
