Description

'Op eigen risico' vermeldt het bord dicht bij de hoeve. Het landschap is te mooi om zich daar zorgen over te maken. Het eerste wat je van het kasteelcomplex te zien krijgt, is de prachtige vijver met daarachter de bossen. Het kasteel van Herlaar dateert uit de 13de eeuw en is volledig omwald. De toegang bevindt zich voorbij een heuse ophaalbrug geflankeerd door twee ronde wachttorens. Links op de Wimp staat de voormalige Herlaarmolen uit de 15de eeuw. Hij is van het onderslagtype, wat betekent dat het water de onderzijde van het rad in beweging zet.
