Op 1 augustus 1886 opent badhuis Van Eyck de deuren als eerste overdekte ‘zwemkom’ van Vlaanderen. Voor de dichtbevolkte arbeidersbuurt vormt het unieke badhuis een enorme troef. Textielfabriek Lousbergs even verderop zorgt voor warm water. Er zijn ook baden voor individuele gebruikers; tot op vandaag kan je hier zo’n bad nemen. In 1932 krijgt het interieur een prachtige art deco uitstraling. Vanaf 1995 geldt het badhuis als beschermd monument. Bij de renovatie ervan kiest men voor het behoud en herstel van de oorspronkelijke 19e-eeuwse buitengevels en het interieur uit de jaren 1930. De voorgevel draagt nog de oorspronkelijke opschriften Bains en Badhuis. Aan de achterzijde staat een nieuw toegangsgebouw. Door de patrijspoorten in de hal van het zwembad kan je een blik werpen op het interieur.
