Hof ter Saksen was in de 15e eeuw het speelterrein van Jan Vijd, bastaardneef van Joos Vijd en baljuw van het Land van Beveren.
In het begin van de 19e eeuw bouwde Jan Baptist Versmessen een nieuw neoclassicistisch kasteel dat tot vandaag menig bezoeker imponeert. In de schaduw van het kasteel kunt u heerlijk wandelen in het park met arboretum. Van maart tot oktober geniet u in de prachtige oranjerie van een dorstlessend Vijdbiertje of van heerlijk appelsap, een unieke persing van het hoogstamfruit van Hof ter Saksen. De oranjerie is open op zon- en feestdagen.
