Virton is een plaats en gemeente in de Belgische provincie Luxemburg. Virton ligt in Belgisch-Lotharingen en de Gaumestreek en is het zuidelijkst gelegen stadje van België. De plaats ligt bij de samenvloeiing van de Vire en de Ton, maar toch ontleent de stad daar haar naam niet aan. De naam is afgeleid van Vertunum, de Keltische benaming voor "goed verdedigde heuvel".
