Wist je dat samen met het Zoniënwoud, het Meerdaalwoud en Buggenhout-bos, het Hallerbos de laatste resten van het oorsponkelijke oerwoud in dit gebied vormt. Dat oerwoud was het uitgestrekte Kolenwoud. Het strekte zich uit van de Zenne tot de Maasvallei.
Hier staat dus al bos van ver voor de Romeinen hier kwamen.
