Het Mechels Broek is een thuis voor vele watervogels: Wilde Eend, Krakeend, Slobeend, Bergeend, Pijlstaart, Kuifeend, Tafeleend, Wintertaling en Smient. Deze laatste is een embleemsoort voor het gebied. Grote en kleine steltlopers zijn van de uitkijktoren te observeren.
