Beschrijving : Het museum werd opgericht in 1828, onder het Hollandse bewind. Het is vandaag het oudste van het land dat toegankelijk is voor het publiek. In 1839 vond het museum onderdak in de voormalige brouwerij van de abdij St-Martin, met een neoclassicistische architectuur en verwierf de eerste olifant in België. De meest spectaculaire stukken staan tentoon in de galerij 'Renard': de grootste krab ter wereld, een schelp van 130 kg, een Komodovaraan, paradijsvogels, de muskusos, het pygmeenijlpaard... Niet aanraken In het Vivarium verkeren de alligators uit China in het gezelschap van aangeplante orchideeën. U treft er ook aquariums aan met schuttervissen en vissen met elektrische velden. Vergeet ook niet een kijkje te nemen bij de vogelspinnen, slangen, kameleons of harlekijnkrabben,...
