De Keunekapel werd in 1906 midden in de duinen opgericht door de familie Lafosse, grootgrondbezitters uit Brussel die een villa tegenover de kapel bezaten. Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog diende de kapel als parochiekerk voor de Nieuwpoortse vluchtelingen die zich eind 1914 in Sint-Idesbald vestigden.Pas sinds de jaren '40 kreeg de ‘Keunekapel’ zijn naam. De duinen rondom de kapel waren een favoriete plek voor tal van ‘dunekeuntjes’ (duinkonijntjes). Vandaag de dag is de Keunekapel eigendom van het gemeentebestuur van Koksijde en doet ze dienst als tentoonstellingsruimte. Gesloten in het weekend.
