In de straatjes rond de kerk van Slijpe is nog de middeleeuwse sfeer te proeven : hoewel het dorpje grotendeels vernield werd tijdens WO I zijn bij de heropbouw de oude perceelsgrenzen gerespecteerd. Deze kleine smalle straatjes gaan terug op de percelering van rond 1100. Vooral de Sint-Niklaasstraat en Paddenstraat geven hiervan een goed idee.
