Wist je dat Leeuw een uitzondelijk gebied was in de 4de eeuw. Dit was een Saksisch gebied met Saksische wetten in tegenstelling tot de dominantie van de Franken rondom. De Saksen zaten meer naar het noorden, in Nederland, en de Noord-Duitse Laagvlakte. Het overgrote merendeel van de Saksen bleef in het huidige Duitsland en bood weerstand tegen het zich uitbreidende Frankische Rijk. Het meest opvallende verschil tussen het Saksische en het Frankische recht was het erfrecht waarbij niet de oudste zoon maar de jongste zoon het vaderlijk erf kreeg bij de Saksen.
