Kanegem is, net als Aarsele en Schuiferskapelle, een deelgemeente van de Vlaamse stad Tielt. Het ligt in West-Vlaanderen, de meest westelijke provincie van België. Het is een landelijke gemeente, zoals wel meer in deze streken. Uit deze kleine gemeente komen ook mensen als Godfried Kardinaal Danneels, momenteel de enige Belgische kardinaal, de kunstschilder en auteur August Vandekerkhove en Briek Schotte, de beroemde Vlaamse wielrenner die zijn gloriejaren kende in de jaren veertig en vijftig. Aan deze laatste is een monument gewijd voor de kerk in Kanegem. Deze neobarokke kerk werd opgetrokken volgens de plannen van Frans Van den Heuvel. De westertoren werd door Eugeen Coopman getekend in 1897-1898.
Kanegem is 1084 ha groot en telde op 1 januari 2006, 1181 inwoners. Kanegem wordt tevens Bloemendorp of Groen Dorp genoemd
