De oorspronkelijke kerk lag eigenlijk op het terreintje waar nu auto's parkeren, op het vroegere kerkhof werd de huidige kerk gebouwd in 1922, na de vernielingen van tijdens WO I.
De kerk is neogotisch en werd ontworpen door het Oostendse architectenduo Pil en Carbon. Tegenover de oude kerk lag het hof van de heren van Westende (het domus Weinini).
Vandaag staat er een nieuwbouw, van de oorspronkelijke walheuvel met opper- en neerhof is dus niks meer te bespeuren.
