The original church was actually located on the small piece of land where cars now park, and the current church was built on the former cemetery in 1922, after the destruction during World War I.
The church is neo-Gothic and was designed by the Ostend architect duo Pil and Carbon. Opposite the old church stood the courtyard of the lords of Westende (the domus Weinini).
Today, there is a new building; there is nothing left to see of the original rampart with upper and lower courtyard.
