De Aalsterse deelgemeenten Baardegem, Meldert, Moorsel en Herdersem vormen samen de zogenaamde Faluintjesstreek. De naam wordt ontleend aan het gelijknamige natuurgebied, dat zich uitstrekt tussen de Abdij Affligem en Moorsel. Om beurten, telkens het laatste volle weekend van juli, organiseren de Faluintjesgemeenten het vermaarde oogstfeest De Pikkeling. Dit volksfeest lokt elk jaar duizenden bezoekers en biedt folklore uit binnen- en buitenland, demonstraties van oogstmachines en aloude oogstrituelen, traditionele muziek en streekgastronomie.
