Het is een neo-romaanse bouwwerk uit 1923, gebouwd ter vervanging van een gelijkaardig kerkgebouw uit 1877. Niet alleen tijdens de Eerste maar ook tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de kerk zwaar beschadigd. De herstellingen van 1947 bepalen dan ook het huidige uitzicht. De gevels in gele baksteen rusten op een arduinen sokkel. Het stillistisch onderscheid met de gotische kerken van Nieuwpoort-Stad en Sint-Joris is in één oogopslag duidelijk. In de Romaanse stijl domineert immers de rondboog terwijl de ornamentiek doorgaans minimaal is. Nochtans is de stijlzuiverheid enigszins geschaad door het gebruik van steunberen tegen de torenromp en de zijbeuken, een element uit de gotiek.
