In de Gasthuisstraat legde de provincie Antwerpen op gronden van Natuurpunt een bypass en hermeandering van de Wouwendonkse Loop aan. Hierdoor ontstaat naast ruimte voor water, ook ruimte voor natuur. Vanuit de lucht gezien lijkt de meandering met poel op een cobra, vandaar de naam.
Op de rest van het perceel heeft Natuurpunt een bos geplant. Om dit bos alle kansen te geven om op te schieten, zal het domein nog zekere enkele jaren niet toegankelijk zijn.
