De lijsterbes (Sorbus aucuparia) is een middelgrote boom die soms ook als struik voorkomt. In het voorjaar komen er witte bloemen in tuilen op de boom daarna groeien er oranjerode bessen aan. Ze blijven hangen totdat de bladeren er afgevallen zijn. Vogels zijn dol op deze bessen, vooral de lijsters. Het blad is geveerd met langwerpige deelblaadjes met grof gezaagde rand.
De vruchten werden vroeger door jagers gebruikt als lokvoer om dieren aan te trekken. Men kan er ook likeur van maken. Het harde roodachtige hout van de lijsterbes wordt gebruikt door meubelmakers.
