Description

De tamme kastanje (Castanea sativa) is gemakkelijk herkenbaar aan de lange, grof gezaagde bladeren. Die zijn glanzend donkergroen aan de bovenzijde, de onderzijde is ietsje lichter. De kastanjes hangen samen in groepjes bolsters met warrige geelgroene stekels.

De tamme kastanje komt oorspronkelijk uit het Middellandse zeegebied, maar werd in onze streken al zeer vroeg door de Romeinen ingevoerd omwille van zijn smakelijke noten. Gepoft in de oven zijn ze een lekkernij.
