In het Verre Oosten is de Japanse notenboom een voorwerp van verering. In Japan wordt de boom als een god vereerd. De Japanse notenboom staat symbool voor onveranderlijkheid, hoop, liefde, toverkracht, tijdloosheid, en een lang leven. Vele kunstenaars zijn geïnspireerd door de Japanse notenboom. Het was de lievelingsboom van Goethe. Hij heeft er enkele honderden opgekweekt en geplant. Ook schreef hij er in 1815 een sonnet over, Gingo biloba. bron: wikipedia
