De georiënteerde neogotische kruisbasiliek van 1852-1853 met geïntegreerde laatgotische toren van circa 1500 is gelegen ten oosten van de Markt, net achter het voormalige gemeentehuis. Het oorspronkelijk omringende kerkhof raakte in verval en werd vervangen door een groenperk met onder meer het monument voor de Boerenkrijg en het monument voor de gesneuvelden van de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
