Crach van de Lancaster I ME846
Het oorlogsmonument herinnert aan een oorlogsdrama. In de nacht van 21 op 22 juni 1944 - even vóór middernacht van de langste-dag-van-het-jaar - stegen vanop diverse vliegvelden in Engeland meerdere RAF-squadrons jachtvliegtuigen en bommenwerpers op met bestemming Wesseling bij Keulen. Doel: Bombardement op Duitse fabrieken en installaties van synthetische brandstof. Ook de Lancaster 1C-ME846, met een zevenkoppige bemanning, nam hieraan deel.
