Dit deel van het landschap is ontstaan uit enkele kasteeldomeinen: Ertbrugge en Zwarte Arend. De beide kastelen zelf zijn nog bewaard gebleven, maar hun domeinen zijn aanzienlijk veranderd. Ertbrugge is het oudste en dateert als hoeve uit de 14e eeuw. Het huidige classicistische kasteel werd rond 1800 opgetrokken. Van het kasteel Zwarte Arend zijn de landgoederen grotendeels verkaveld en ingekapseld in het woonweefsel. Het domein van Ertbrugge is ecologisch erg belangrijk omdat het een uitgebreide voorjaarsflora zoals bosanemoon bevat. Men vindt er ook andere typische soorten van eiken-elzenbossen: muskuskruid en aalbes. Dit heeft mogelijk te maken met de aanwezigheid van leem in de bodem en met de ouderdom van het bos.
