Aan de overkant van de Lerebeek liggen 'De Petitsen', een verschrijving van 'Les Petites', kleine percelen. Het is hier, in het gehucht Eggertingen, dat Limburgs Landschap in 2004 haar eerste percelen verwierf. Het natuurgebied breidde verder uit, maar had nog geen specifieke, gebiedsdekkende naam. En die werd maar niet gevonden... vandaar dat het bij Eggertingen bleef!
Hier groeit ook de kleine kaardenbol. Deze vrij zeldzame plant wijst erop dat er kalk in de bodem zit. Door verschillende jaren van strooksgewijs maaibeheer heeft de plant zich verspreid en komt nu zelfs op nattere plaatsen in de vallei voor.
