Op de linkerzijde van de Broekstraat, net voor de afslag naar Oudendijk, staan bunkers. Ze behoren tot de bunkerlinie die tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog door de Duitsers werd gebouwd. Deze bunkers moesten beschermen tegen een eventuele rugaanval door de geallieerden. Na een landing in Nederland zouden de geallieerden Antwerpen makkelijk kunnen heroveren. De Duitse defensie was daarom gebaseerd op het doorsteken van de Scheldedijken. Het water zou de polders overstromen tot aan de Broekstraat. Daarna moesten deze bunkers de verdediging overnemen.
