Districtshuis in neo-renaissance-stijl, naar ontwerp van Eugeen Gife van 1870; werken aanbesteed op 24 juli 1871. Het bestek omvatte de afbraak van het bestaande onderwijzershuis en de opbouw van een gemeentehuis met "gevangenhuis" en veldwachterswoning. Vermoedelijk beëindigd eind 1872-begin 1873. Bij de oprichting van een nieuw gemeentehuis hoorde ook de verfraaiing van de Bist, waarvan men in 1837 een modern, mooi beplant plein maakte. Uitbreiding met rechter vleugel in 1920 en vleugel in de Doornstraat van 1936. Laatste uitbreidingen van 1962 en 1971.
