Op de hoek van de Volderstraat met de Veldstraat was ooit een oude Gentse glorie: de tabakszaak Caron. Deze winkel dateerde uit het begin van de 20ste eeuw en had de allure van het boulevardtijdperk. Als roker kwam je hier echt aan je trekken. Sigaretten, sigaren, tabak en snuiftabak waren er in alle maten en klassen te verkrijgen. Was je niet-roker, dan kon je de heerlijk geurende winkel toch eens binnenstappen om je een nieuwe vulpen aan te schaffen.
