Op de Viersel Heide ligt het waterwinningsgebied van Pidpa. Sinds 1942 wordt hier grondwater van
een diepte van 60 m opgepompt en behandeld voor het leidingnet van de gemeenten in de Netevallei
van Grobbendonk tot Sint-Katelijne-Waver. Aangezien een goed doorwortelde bosgrond een ideale
filter is om regenwater te zuiveren, zal het je niet verwonderen dat deze boszone een heel geschikt
waterwinningsgebied is. Gezien de capaciteit van waterdragende grondlagen niet onbegrensd is, dient
een reserve te worden aangelegd. Hiervoor laat men behandeld water uit het Albertkanaal geleidelijk
de bodem indringen (meer info www.pidpa.be).
