Oude gemeente aan de Romeinse weg Belle-Wervik. In 1105 al gekend als Noua Ecclesia. In 1080 was er een romaanse kerk ingewijd, in opvolging van een oudere kapel. De monniken van Sint-Jan-ten-Berghe lagen er aan de basis van. Die kerk werd meermaals vernield en verbouwd. De huidige kerk, met drie beuken, is pas in 1922-23 gebouwd, in neo-romaanse stijl, door Jozef Viérin. Die kwam in de plaats van de laatgotische kerk uit de 16de eeuw, die in de Eerste Wereldoorlog was verwoest, op de zuidwestelijke gevel na. Interieur: beeld Jezus aan het kruis (1600), kruisweg van C. Vallaeys (1923), twee glas-in-lood ramen gedenken de moord op drie geestelijken in Reningelst. Elk kwartier klinken de vier kleine klokjes van de beiaard.
