Gelegen in Calestienne, in het zuiden van Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse, bestaat de locatie uit een kalkhelling bedekt met bossen aan de linkeroever van de Zwarte Water, niet ver van Couvin. Dicht bij de waterloop, aan de rand van het massief, bevindt zich de ingang van de beroemde Neptunusgrotten. Het geheel biedt grote landschapwaarde, zowel qua esthetiek als botanisch, met de aanwezigheid van een station van de tweebladige sterhyacint (Scilla bifolia), een zeldzame kleine lelie, die voornamelijk in Wallonië voorkomt in het bekken van de Viroin. Ook is de grote hoefijzerneus (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) aanwezig.
