Onderdeel van de Natura 2000-site 'Vallée de la Haine stroomafwaarts van Mons', bevat het bos van Hainin een mozaïek van voornamelijk vochtige en moerasachtige habitats: rietlanden met oeverzegge (Carex riparia) en moeraszegge (Carex acutiformis), rietvelden met franje (Juncus effusus), netwerk van sloten, bronnen, enz. Het is een belangrijke waterpompplaats die meer of minder significante bodemdaling veroorzaakt. De fauna, die weinig bekend is, omvat verschillende soorten amfibieën, evenals de blauwborst (Luscinia svecica) en een kleine beschermde slak, de Desmoulin's slak (Vertigo moulinsiana).
