De ‘hooipiete’ (piete is West-Vlaams voor wegneembare houten brug) liet sinds eind 17de eeuw de landbouwers toe ter hoogte van Fintele de IJzer over te steken om het hooi uit de IJzerbroeken binnen te halen en het vee naar de broeken te brengen. Halfweg de 19de eeuw kwam er een vaste brug die elke zomer werd opgebouwd en afgebroken. Het brugdek moest wel bij elke passage van een schip met de hand worden opgebroken en teruggelegd. In 1990 gebeurde dat 65 keer. De toename van de pleziervaart op de IJzer en de zwaarder wordende landbouwvoertuigen zorgden ervoor dat de brug na de zomer van 1990 niet meer werd heropgebouwd. De hooipiete staat nu opgesteld over een slootje in de weide naast restaurant De Hooipiete.
