Hier ligt niet zomaar een rotsblok voor de sier. Het is een blok uit de nabijgelegen groeve, een zandsteen behorende tot de Formatie van Tubize die 530 tot 537 miljoen jaar geleden afgezet werd in het geologisch tijdperk Cambrium, onderdeel van het Massief van Brabant. De ontginningen startten hier in de buurt vanaf de 19e eeuw tot 30m diep door "Société pour l'exploitation de la carrière de Rodenem". De stenen werden gebruikt voor kasseien voor aanleg van wegen en bouwstenen voor talrijke bouwwerken (o.a. de kerk van Lembeek en de Malakofftoren).
