Net voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de KW-linie gebouwd om België te beschermen tegen een Duitse inval. Een 400 tal bunkers werden opgetrokken tussen Koningshooikt tot Waver. De naam KW staat voor de beide uiterste punten.
Zoals hier werden deze geplaatst op "strategische" plaatsen zoals in dit geval de Margijsbosweg. De meeste bunkers zijn niet afgebroken en zijn nu dikwijls ideale plaatsen voor vleermuizen.
