Het Zoniënwoud is een complex ecosysteem is op landschapsniveau. Op deze plek vormen natte graslanden en vijvers een ‘micro-ecosysteem’, met veel verschillende soorten: in de lente hoor je hier kikkers kwaken en zie je veel insecten, omdat dit een open ruimte is met veel licht.
We kunnen zelfs op een nog gedetailleerder niveau kijken, bijvoorbeeld naar een boomstam als een ecosysteem waar verschillende insectensoorten en microscopische dieren leven.
