Achter het Palais des Beaux Arts ligt het gigantische Palais des Expositions (1953) dat een ingrijpende metamorfose onderging op de tekentafel van bureau AJDVIV van Jan De Vylder. Aan twee kanten werd het gebouw opengemaakt, zodat de energie van het ringviaduct en de stad erdoor lijkt te stromen. Op de oude ACEC-site, enkele kilometers buiten het centrum, bouwt Aerospacelab de grootste satellietfabriek van Europa naar een ontwerp van Karsten Geers en David Van Severen. Het meubilair op de vernieuwde pleinen draagt het stempel van Muller-Van Severen.
